What Is Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion?

Diversity refers to the notion that we all have historical backgrounds, characteristics, and beliefs that make each one of us unique. Equity refers to fairness keeping historical context in mind. Inclusion refers to actions that celebrate diversity and equity, and systems that create and maintain both.

Who Is Inclusion For?

In short, everyone.

Whether in the workplace, in educational settings, in social spaces, or in one on one conversations, understanding inclusion is critical for everyone.

Sometimes, people avoid inclusion conversations because of uncomfortable feelings. Learning spaces work best when everyone learns to become comfortable with what is uncomfortable. Learning occurs in that development. That learning ensures that our workplaces, social and educational settings, are safe for everyone.

What is The Process Like?

The process is designed for individuals and groups who want an introduction to learning about Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion. The process includes an introduction meeting, to confirm the needs and goals for individuals, the engagement training itself, and assessment and feedback. Engagements are tailored to individual needs and intentionally designed.

About Me

I am Gaelle A.I. pronounced GUY-yell. I use she/her and they pronouns.

In an increasingly virtual world, I design inclusion learning opportunities both in-person and virtually.

As a Haitian-American woman raised in the United States, I have learned to analyze, strategize, and navigate space. I have developed a passion for inclusion, which directly stems from my upbringing, and needing the ability to understand different people and diverse backgrounds.

I have over ten years of professional experience within Higher Education Institutions. For years, I have been facilitating conversations surrounding inclusion and justice and have experience teaching inclusion. I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Higher Education Administration attending graduate school at Syracuse University. I have earned a Master of Arts in Psychology from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Temple University.

Testimonials

“The inclusion training at Howard University led by Gaelle, was truly transformative for me. The session was not only informative, but also sparked fire within me to join the LGBTQ+ advisory council, as the training made me feel seen and supported in my identity. I wanted to do the same for students, faculty, and staff.”

Dr. Adrian L. Mayse, CPA

Dean and Professor of Accounting

Division of Business Administration

Talladega College

“The LGBTQ+ 101 training that Gaelle provided was insightful, provocative, and wonderful. I appreciated the patience and time she took to connect with participants, to answer their questions and ensure they understood the terms. Gaelle creates a safe space for long time allies feel validated and new allies to be inspired.”

Dr. Akosoa McFadgion

Former Director, Interpersonal Violence Prevention Program

Howard University

“Gaelle fundamentally believes in equity and inclusion as a critical factor in our way of life. She is an educator and advocate on the pathway to making equal and diverse spaces wherever we go. She connects with the audience through storytelling, and sharing strategies on becoming inclusive in various areas of our lives. She has been a phenomenal guest speaker in my Diversity Issues in Higher Education Course, as well as being a thought leader in designing strategies to eliminate biases in our personal lives and workspaces.”
